Types of Breakdown Cover

There are 4 main types of breakdown cover. Each has their own benefits which you should weigh up when deciding which is the right one for you. It depends on the amount of motoring you do, your level of car maintenance ability and whether you drive in Europe much. Generally an annual subscription to a breakdown insurance provider (with the current online discounts) will start at around £25 for the most basic of packages which will probably only include roadside assistance. Prices can rise to £200 for roadside assistance, national recovery, home breakdown and European cover.

Policies can usually be bought for either an individual (so whatever car you're driving, you're covered), the vehicle (so whoever is driving that vehicle, they are covered) or a joint / family membership (which covers multiple people or vehicles under one policy).

It's therefore best to have a good look through each provider to see what they offer, write down your specific needs, then go back and compare the prices of breakdown services that you feel fit your requirements and budget.

Roadside Assistance - Roadside emergency breakdown help to fix your car / vehicle and if unable to be fixed, a tow to a local garage.
